NIS Officers Accused of Demanding ₦2m Bribe from Traveller at Seme Border
The Spitfire, Britain’s most recognizable aircraft, took its maiden flight on March 5th, 1936. This year, Hull Minster will celebrate the Spitfire’s 90th anniversary with a 1940s-era showcase on Trinity Square.
Headlining the day will be the full-sized model MKII Spitfire, which visitors will be able to stand next to and get photos with. The plane is being supported by RAF re-enactors, as well as Mr. Churchill himself! (see below for photos)
Trinity Square will also host a 1945 MG-TC automobile, made famous by Spitfire ace Douglas Bader. Trinity Square will be full of re-enactors, including the RAF, demonstrators and objects representing the Home Front during the War, a real Morrison Shelter, and much more!
There will also be 1940s musicians playing throughout the day: a George Formby tribute, the Andrews Sisters, and a WWII Pipe Major will all be playing intermittently throughout the day. The Minster’s Saturday Concert Series will also take place between 12-1 in the chancel, featuring the harp and the viola played by the talented Duo Amibile from London.
Needless to say, we will not be short of good music!
The event is being held on Saturday 7th March between 10-4pm. For timelines of our musical performances, visitors can view our event page here: Spitfire 90th Anniversary Showcase (Trinity Square) (07-Mar-2026) · ChurchSuite Events
We invite all residents of Hull and beyond to help us to celebrate, explore and commemorate wartime Britain in this free event, the last headline event of our 600th anniversary year.
